Product Overview
The 25420 combines the AKW Arka TMV3 and WRAS-approved thermostatic bar shower valve with a 1m chrome riser rail accessory kit, supplied as a complete package for domestic and care-adapted bathroom installations. The valve provides TMV3-certified thermostatic temperature control with independent paddle levers for temperature and flow, cool touch technology that maintains the valve body at a safe contact temperature during use, and a factory pre-set maximum of 38°C with an installer-adjustable override to 41°C. The polished chrome brass valve suits both concealed and exposed pipework installations, connects via standard back-entry 3/4" or 1/2" BSP fittings at 150mm centres, and outputs through a central bottom G1/2" outlet compatible with standard shower hoses.
The included 1m Chrome Shower Accessory Kit (30313CH) features a 1m riser rail with a height-adjustable slider, a chrome handset with three spray settings, a 2m WRAS-approved shower hose, a clear soap dish, and a separate handset wall bracket. The riser rail can be cut down on-site if a shorter installation height is required. All hose and handset components carry WRAS approval.
Please note: the Arka valve is capable of delivering up to 14 L/min at 3 bar. Before installation, confirm that the shower tray and waste outlet can drain at a rate equal to or greater than the valve's maximum output. Where the tray's drainage capacity is lower, a flow restrictor must be fitted. AKW's flow-limited valve variant (25421-3FL, maximum 8 L/min) is available separately if preferred.
Benefits
TMV3 and WRAS Approval — Scalding Protection Suitable for Vulnerable Users: TMV3 is the performance standard required for mixer showers in care-adapted domestic bathrooms, care homes, and environments where vulnerable adults or children may be at risk of scalding. The Arka valve meets this standard as supplied and carries WRAS approval for water fittings compliance.
Cool Touch Valve Body — Safe Contact During Use: The outer surface of the valve body remains at a safe temperature during operation regardless of the water temperature being delivered. This protects users — including older adults, children, and people with reduced sensation or limited movement — who may grip or lean against the valve during showering.
Two Independent Paddle Levers — Accessible and Intuitive Control: Temperature and flow are each controlled by a separate rounded paddle lever with a built-in limit stop and override function. The levers are deliberately oversized and rounded, designed for people with limited hand strength, arthritic joints, or restricted upper limb movement. The temperature is limited to 38°C during normal use, with override access up to 41°C for carers or when clinically appropriate. Flow can similarly be limited and overridden during commissioning to suit the specific installation.
1m Riser Rail with Three-Mode Handset — Flexible for a Range of Users: The 1m rail allows the handset height to be adjusted along the full length of the slider to suit standing or seated showering. The chrome handset offers three spray modes — Jet, Fine, and Bubble — selectable by rotating the head. The rail can be cut down on-site if required, and a separate wall bracket is included for parking the handset when not on the slider. The 2m hose provides sufficient reach for most shower enclosures and wet room configurations.

FAQs
What water pressure does this valve require? The valve operates from a minimum dynamic pressure of 0.2 bar, making it compatible with gravity-fed as well as mains-pressure systems. Maximum dynamic pressure is 5 bar and maximum static pressure is 10 bar. The pressure difference between the hot and cold supplies must not exceed 1 bar. Where supplies are significantly unbalanced, a pressure-reducing valve will be required on the higher-pressure inlet.
What is the maximum flow rate, and do I need to check my shower tray before installing? At 3 bar, the valve can deliver up to 14 L/min. Before installation, verify that the shower tray and waste outlet can drain at a rate at least equal to this maximum. If the tray's drainage capacity is lower, a flow restrictor must be fitted to prevent flooding.
Can I cut the riser rail down if my bathroom has limited wall height? Yes. The 1m rail can be cut down on-site if required. Cut from the end without the fixing hole, and ensure the end cap is refitted after cutting. The kit includes 2 wall brackets and fixing hardware for installation at the full length.
Is this valve suitable for a care-adapted bathroom? The valve is TMV3-approved and suitable for care-adapted domestic bathrooms and commercial care environments. If the installation requires a rail with a more robust mounting system, a configurable handset holder, or accessories carrying RNIB and Dementia Design Accreditation, the Care Accessory Kit variant (25420CH, including kit 30317CH) is the more appropriate choice. An occupational therapist or assessor can advise on which accessory kit best suits the user's specific needs.
How does the temperature limiting work, and can it be changed? The temperature lever is pre-set to 38°C via an internal limit ring. An override button allows access to temperatures up to 41°C, set via a separate override limit ring during commissioning. Both limits are adjustable by a qualified engineer at any point following installation using the procedure in the installation manual. For TMV3 compliance, the maximum override must not exceed 41°C.
How should the valve and kit be cleaned? Clean the valve body, levers, rail, slider, and handset using warm soapy water and a soft cloth only. Do not use abrasive pads, scourers, or acidic or alkaline cleaning products — these will damage the chrome finish and may invalidate the warranty. Inlet filters should be inspected and cleaned periodically as part of routine maintenance and in-service testing.
Warranty
The Arka TMV3 Cool Touch Mixer Shower valve carries a 5-year warranty against manufacturing and material defects, conditional on correct installation by a suitably qualified engineer in line with the supplied instructions. The Standard Shower Accessory Kit carries a separate warranty against manufacturing and material defects from the date of installation. Both warranties require product registration within 30 days of installation to activate. Neither warranty covers accidental damage, incorrect installation, inappropriate cleaning, unauthorised modifications, general wear and tear, or surface finishes.
