Wall Fixing & Substrate This seat is wall-mounted and must be fixed to a structurally adequate substrate. The wall must be capable of bearing the full dynamic load of a seated user up to 254kg.

Seat Height Adjustment Two sets of legs are provided as standard, covering a seat height range of 390–640mm. Set to the height specified by the OT assessment or the end user's measured requirement on site. The support leg includes ±13mm fine adjustment to level the seat on wet room floors with a gradient.

Blue Pad for Visual Contrast This blue padded option provides high-contrast seating against a typically white or neutral shower wall, beneficial for visually impaired users.

Standards Tested to BS EN 12182:1998 (assistive products — general requirements) and BS EN 12727:2000 (ranked seating — strength and durability).

Warranty Condition The lifetime warranty applies only to first installation.

What this product is This is a shower seat that fixes permanently to the wall. When not in use it folds flat, keeping the shower space clear. When needed, it folds down and locks into position to provide a stable place to sit and shower safely.

Full seat vs horseshoe seat This is a full, closed-front seat — the same as the shape of a standard chair seat. AKW also make a horseshoe (open-front) version of this seat in the same range, which some users find easier for personal hygiene. If that is a consideration, see the horseshoe variant.

Back rest and arms The back rest provides support for users who need to lean back while showering. The padded arms provide something to grip and lean on, and fold up independently — so if the person transfers onto the seat from a wheelchair or walking frame, the arm on the transfer side can be folded out of the way, then folded back down once they're seated.

Adjustable height The seat height adjusts between 390mm and 640mm. For reference, 390mm is approximately the height of a standard chair; 640mm is significantly higher, which suits taller users or those whose knees make it difficult to bend far to sit down. The correct height will typically be set by an occupational therapist or by the installer based on the user's measurements.

Choosing a colour The unpadded white seat with blue arms or grey arms (04240) provides a clean, standard finish. If the person showering has visual impairment, this blue padded version offers better contrast against a pale shower wall, making the seat more visible and easier to locate. If comfort or skin sensitivity is a consideration, the padded versions provide a softer seating surface.

Cleaning Wipe down with hot soapy water and a soft cloth after use. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, or caustic cleaning products — these can damage the frame finish and padded surfaces.

Lifetime — covers manufacturing and material defects only. Excludes normal wear and tear, accidental damage, and damage resulting from incorrect installation, inappropriate use, or improper cleaning. Applies only to the first installation.

FAQs

Is this the same as the horseshoe seat? No. This is a full, closed-front seat. The horseshoe version (SKU 04250P in grey padded) has an open front cut-out. The frame dimensions, weight capacity, and adjustment range are the same across both seat shapes — the seat shape itself is the functional difference.

What wall does it fix to? The seat must be fixed to a wall with a substrate capable of bearing a 254kg dynamic load. Solid masonry or a timber/steel backing rail behind plasterboard or wall panels is required. If you're unsure about your wall construction, your installer should advise before the seat is ordered.

Can the height be adjusted after installation? Yes. The seat height is set via the support legs, which can be adjusted between 390mm and 640mm using the two sets of legs supplied. The ±13mm fine adjustment on the support leg can also be changed without removing the wall bracket.
