The 4000 Series Larger Extra Wide is a wall-mounted, fold-up shower seat designed specifically for bariatric users and installations where a wider seating surface is required.

At 660mm overall width, it is 98mm wider than the standard Extra Wide seat in the same range, and requires a minimum enclosure or shower tray width of 820mm. This is the seat-only version — no back rest or arms are included.

Bariatric Specification AKW explicitly positions this seat for bariatric users. The weight capacity is 254kg / 40 stone — the same as all other 4000 Series seats — but the wider seating surface (660mm overall, 562mm usable) provides greater comfort and stability for larger users. Factor the wider seat into the manoeuvring space calculation within the enclosure when folded up and when deployed.

No Back or Arms This seat provides no posterior or lateral support. It is appropriate where the OT assessment confirms the user has adequate trunk stability to sit unsupported, or where wall-mounted grab rails provide the required support. No back or arm accessories are available for this seat in any configuration.

Wall Fixing & Substrate Must be fixed to a structurally adequate substrate capable of bearing a dynamic load of 254kg

Blue Pad for Visual Contrast provides higher-contrast seating. Factor into specification where visual impairment is relevant to the end user.

Important — check your shower size first Because this seat is wider, it needs a larger shower area. Your shower enclosure or wet room floor must be at least 820mm wide to accommodate it. If your shower is narrower than this, a different seat size will be needed. If you're unsure, measure the internal width of your shower before ordering, or contact us.

No arms or back This seat has no back rest or arms. If the person needs something to lean against or grip for support, wall-mounted grab rails alongside the seat are typically used. If seat-mounted arms are specifically needed, they are not available on this model — an occupational therapist can advise on the best setup for the individual.

Choosing a colour The blue option provides higher visual contrast against a pale shower wall, which helps users with visual impairment locate the seat. Both (blue & grey) padded options provide a more comfortable seating surface than the unpadded white.

Cleaning Wipe down with hot soapy water and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, or caustic products — these will damage the cushion surface and frame finish.

What minimum shower size does this seat require? The enclosure or shower tray must be at least 820mm wide internally. If your shower is narrower than this, this seat will not fit correctly and a standard Extra Wide seat (562mm) should be specified instead.

What wall substrate is needed? A substrate capable of bearing a 254kg dynamic load. Given the wider seat and larger moment arm, wall substrate adequacy is particularly important on this model.
