AKW 4000 Series Standard Fold Up Horseshoe Padded Shower Seat - Blue

A wall-mounted, fold-up shower seat with an open-front horseshoe shape, designed for standard-width shower enclosures where space is limited. At 442mm wide it is the most compact horseshoe seat in the AKW 4000 fold-up range, and suits installations where an extra wide seat would not fit. It has no back rest or arms.

Suitable for bariatric users up to 254kg / 40 stone.

No Back or Arms This seat provides no posterior or lateral support. Appropriate where the user has sufficient trunk stability to sit unsupported, or where wall-mounted grab rails provide the required lateral support.

Horseshoe vs Full Seat at This Width Both the standard horseshoe (this page) and the standard full seat are 442mm wide with identical height range, weight capacity, deployed projection, and fixing dimensions. The only functional difference is the open front. Select horseshoe where easier access for intimate hygiene whilst seated is a clinical or practical requirement; select full seat where it is not.

Wall Fixing & Substrate Must be fixed to a structurally adequate substrate capable of bearing a dynamic load of 254kg.

Seat Height Adjustment Two sets of legs supplied as standard, covering 390–640mm. Set to the height confirmed by OT assessment or measured on site. The ±13mm support leg fine adjustment must be correctly set to ensure the seat sits level on sloped wet room floors.

Blue Pad for Visual Contrast 04100P (blue) provides higher-contrast seating against a pale enclosure wall. Factor into specification where visual impairment is relevant.

Standards Tested to BS EN 12182:1998 (assistive products — general requirements) and BS EN 12727:2000 (ranked seating — strength and durability).

Why horseshoe rather than a full seat? The open front makes personal hygiene easier to manage while sitting down, without needing to stand or reposition. For users who stay seated throughout showering, this can make a practical difference to day-to-day care.

Why standard width rather than extra wide? This seat is 442mm wide — around 120mm narrower than the Extra Wide versions. It is the right choice for a standard shower cubicle where the extra width would obstruct the enclosure door or take up too much floor space.

No arms or back This seat is suitable for users who can sit independently without needing something to push off from or lean against. Grab rails mounted on the shower wall are commonly used alongside a seat like this to provide lateral support. 

Adjustable height The seat adjusts between 390mm and 640mm using the leg sets supplied. This is a wide range covering most users. The correct height is normally confirmed by an occupational therapist or set on site by the installer.

Choosing a colour Blue provides higher visual contrast against a pale shower wall, which can help users with visual impairment locate the seat. Both padded options (Blue & Grey) are more comfortable than the unpadded white.

Cleaning Wipe down with hot soapy water and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, or caustic products.

Lifetime — covers manufacturing and material defects only. Excludes normal wear and tear, accidental damage, damage from incorrect installation, inappropriate use, or improper cleaning.

Choose the horseshoe where easier intimate hygiene whilst seated is a requirement; choose the full seat where it is not.

What is the difference between this seat and the Extra Wide? The Extra Wide Horseshoe is 562mm wide versus 442mm here. Otherwise the seat shape, height range, weight capacity, and fixing method are the same.
