Description

Most shower trays need gravity drainage — a hole in the floor, a fall to a drain, space beneath for the waste trap. On structural concrete floors, high-rise developments, and ground-floor extensions, that simply isn't an option.

The Impey Radiate is engineered specifically for these situations. It uses a dedicated pumped waste system to remove water mechanically, so there's no need to excavate the floor, no need to build up a platform, and no need to compromise on the showering area. At just 40mm high, it's also fully access friendly — low enough for wheelchair users to roll in with a compatible ramp, and much easier to step over for anyone with limited mobility.

For trade professionals

The Radiate is a reliable specification answer for pumped drainage scenarios — designed so the waste fitting sits entirely within the tray's depth, eliminating the need for any sub-floor work.

  • Waste outlet position: Central, along the edge of the tray. Pipework (15mm) exits from any point around the perimeter — the tray underside is channelled to route pipe to the preferred exit side
  • Pipe exit method: Drill a 16mm hole at the chosen exit point. Push-fit fittings must not be used due to clearance constraints. Bend pipe with a pipe bender — no elbow fittings
  • Bedding: Can be installed direct to floor; sand/cement or tile adhesive bed acceptable if levelling is required
  • Pump compatibility: Whale Switch Connect, Direct Connect, Instant Match. Set pump to 'M' for rated flow performance
  • Flow rate: Max 8.5 l/min with pumped waste (11 l/min if installed with gravity waste)
  • Construction: Multi-layer GRP with durable polyester gel coat upper surface; self-supporting to 300kg
  • Supplied with: Radiate-specific pumped waste fitting; self-adhesive flexible fabric tile upstand
  • Not handed: Universal installation orientation

Bath replacement sizes (1700mm): The 1700 x 700mm and 1700 x 800mm trays are designed to be cut down for wall-to-wall bath replacement installations. Cut with a conventional multipurpose handsaw. Allow for the 125mm end cap when measuring.

For homeowners

If you're converting a bathroom in a flat, ground floor extension, or any room where digging into the floor isn't realistic, the Radiate removes the biggest barrier to getting a shower installed.

What makes the Radiate different:

  • At just 40mm high, it's one of the lowest shower trays available — easy to step into, and fully compatible with ramped access for wheelchair users or anyone with limited mobility
  • The pumped waste system means no floor excavation, no structural work, no mess — the pump does the job of gravity
  • A matte, slip-resistant surface (rated DIN 51097 Class B) and a unique water-channelling tread pattern give confident underfoot grip
  • The acoustically tuned quiet waste keeps noise low — important in flats or where the bathroom is near a bedroom
  • Supplied with a self-adhesive flexible tile upstand, so the seal to your wall tiles is included
  • Lifetime guarantee, CE marked, and made in the UK

Practical note on the pump: The Radiate works with Whale Switch Connect, Direct Connect, and Instant Match waste pump systems (sold separately). It's best matched with a single-feed electric shower. If you're planning a dual-feed mixer shower, flow restrictors may be required.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pump need to be purchased separately? Yes. The Radiate is supplied with the dedicated pumped waste fitting built into the tray, but the Whale pump unit itself is sold separately. Impey recommend the Whale Switch Connect, Direct Connect, or Instant Match.

Can I use any shower with the Radiate? The tray is best matched to a single-feed electric shower. If you're using a dual-feed thermostatic or mixer shower, flow restrictors may be needed to keep flow within the pump's rated capacity (max 8.5 l/min).

Do I need to excavate the floor? No — that's the point of the Radiate. The entire waste mechanism sits within the 40mm tray depth. There is no floor excavation required.

Can the pipe exit from any side of the tray? Yes. The underside of the tray is designed to route 15mm pipework to any point around the perimeter. Once the preferred exit is decided, drill a 16mm hole. Do not use push-fit fittings or elbow connectors.

Can the 1700mm tray be cut to size? Yes. The 1700 x 700mm and 1700 x 800mm sizes are designed as bath replacement trays and can be cut down with a standard handsaw. Allow for the 125mm end cap when taking measurements.

Is a ramp available for wheelchair access? Yes — compatible access ramps are available. The 40mm height is specifically designed to work with these ramps.

What is the weight limit? The Radiate is self-supporting to 300kg.
