Description

The AKW Option A Silverdale range provides a high-performance, low-access showering solution designed to facilitate assisted bathing while maintaining excellent water retention. This range is designed for shower tray-based installations only.

This specific configuration features a bi-folding door and a single return door with clear glazing, offering maximum visibility for both the user and the carer. Available in 75.0cm and 90.0cm heights, these screens allow carers to reach over comfortably to assist with showering while the user remains protected from splashes.

Engineered with lightweight, clear PET panels, the system offers a shatterproof and durable alternative to glass, ensuring a safe environment in high-traffic adaptation settings.

Each kit is supplied as a complete solution, including a 600mm trimmable ceiling support, an L-shaped curtain rail, and a weighted 180.0cm x 200.0cm curtain. The silver-finished aluminium frames and hardwearing Nylon 6 components provide a modern, industrial-strength finish that is easy to maintain and guaranteed for life.

    Benefits

    • Rising Butt Two-Way Hinges: Effortless Operation – The unique hinge mechanism lifts the doors slightly during movement, ensuring they glide over floor seals without resistance. This makes the doors significantly easier to operate for users with limited dexterity and prevents wear on the gaskets.
    • 360-Degree Bi-Fold Engineering: Maximum Spatial Efficiency – The bi-folding door sections utilize 360-degree hinges, allowing them to fold completely flat both inwards and outwards. This provides a total clear opening for wheelchair transfers and maximizes floor space in smaller bathroom layouts.
    • Shatterproof Clear PET Glazing: Safety and Visibility – The high-impact PET panels are far safer than traditional glass in a mobility-focused setting as they will not shatter upon impact. The clear finish ensures maximum light and visibility, which is essential for carer-assisted showering and reducing the "closed-in" feeling for the user.

How to Choose the Correct Screen

    1. Pick Your Handedness:

Left-handed vs Right-handed applies to rectangular trays (e.g. 1200×700mm), where one panel is longer than the other. You determine whether you need a left-handed or right-handed screen based on which side the longer door panel is located, when standing at the opening door entry corner:

    • Left-handed - the longer door panel is on your left as you face the shower
    • Right-handed - the longer door panel is on your right as you face the shower

Important: Choosing the wrong handedness is the most common ordering mistake. Returns are chargeable, so please check carefully before ordering. If you are unsure, please call us on 0161 223 5050.

    2. Choose your size:

Each option has 2 door panels. Measure your longest door first, then your shortest length. Then select those sizes from the size option boxes.

Note: Some screen sizes are made to order and could take 7-10 days to be despatched. Please message us first to confirm before placing your order. Made to measure screens are non returnable.

    Quick Selection Checklist

Use this to avoid the most common ordering mistakes:

    • Is your tray rectangular? → Determine left or right
    • Have you measured the long door panel side first, then the short side?
    • Does the screen width allow safe access for the user?
    • Do you need a 750mm or 900mm screen height?
    • Have you checked whether your size is made to order?

    FAQs

Is the clear panel made of glass?

No. These screens use clear PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate). PET is a lightweight, shatterproof glazing material that is much safer for accessible bathrooms than glass, as it cannot shatter into dangerous shards if hit by a wheelchair or mobility aid.

Can these doors be adjusted for out-of-plumb walls?

Yes. The Silverdale wall compensators provide 14.5mm of lateral adjustment on each side. This allows the installer to achieve a perfect, watertight fit even if the bathroom walls are not perfectly vertical.

Does the door lock into place when closed?

The system features smooth-action modern latches and strong magnetic strips. These work together to ensure the doors remain securely closed during use, providing a high-integrity water barrier that prevents leaks onto the dry area of the bathroom.
