For Trade & Installers

Wet Room Zone Compliance The EW range is designed exclusively for wet room / wet floor installations. The rising butt hinges raise the door on opening to prevent floor seal drag against wet room vinyl or tile gradients — this is a functional requirement, not just a convenience feature. Confirm floor gradient and surface type before specifying.

Wall Compensators Each unit ships with 14.5mm of lateral adjustment per side. Verify wall plumb before fixing — compensators do not correct for severe out-of-plumb walls beyond this tolerance.

Floor Seals The elastomeric wet-floor gaskets are profile-matched to AKW wet room floor systems. Compatibility with third-party formers or vinyl from other suppliers should be confirmed on-site before installation. Do not substitute standard shower tray seals.

Panel Material Note Panels are frosted PET, not glass.

Curtain Rail The L-shaped rail requires ceiling fixing via the drop rod. Ceiling substrate must be adequate to support the rail and curtain. Trimmable drop rod accommodates standard ceiling heights.

For Homeowners & Carers

The AKW Option EW is a half-height shower screen — typically 750mm or 900mm tall — designed for open, level-access shower areas (wet rooms) rather than enclosed shower trays or cubicles.

Why half-height? A half-height screen lets a carer stand outside the shower and assist with washing without getting fully wet. The screen deflects water inward while keeping the access point wide and unobstructed.

Why frosted panels? The frosted version offers privacy for the person showering while retaining all the practical benefits of the EW range — lightweight panels that won't shatter if accidentally knocked, and doors that lift slightly as they open so they don't catch on the wet floor.

How does the bi-fold door work? The main door folds flat against itself or the wall, creating a wide, clear opening. This is particularly useful if the person showering uses a wheelchair, walking frame, or needs to be assisted into the shower with a hoist or transfer aid.

Curtain included A weighted permeable shower curtain is included in the kit. This provides an additional layer of water containment and can be easily laundered.

Is this suitable for my bathroom? These screens are designed specifically for wet rooms — bathrooms with a flat or gently sloped tiled or vinyl floor and a drain built into the floor itself. They are not designed for use with a raised shower tray. If you're unsure whether your bathroom qualifies, contact us before ordering.

FAQs

What is the difference between the Frosted and Clear versions of this screen? The panel material is the only difference — both use PET rather than glass, and both share the same EW frame, hinges, seals, and kit contents. The frosted version provides visual privacy for the person showering; the clear version allows full visibility, which some carers or clinical settings prefer.

Is PET the same as glass? No. PET is a lightweight, shatterproof polymer. It will not break into sharp shards if struck. This makes it safer in an assisted bathing environment than toughened glass. PET requires slightly different cleaning — avoid abrasive scouring pads or cream cleaners, which can cause surface hazing over time.

What type of floor does this screen require? The EW range is designed for wet room floors — a tiled or vinyl-finished floor with a built-in gradient draining to a floor-level waste. It is not compatible with raised shower trays. The bottom seals are profile-matched to wet room floor surfaces, not flat shower tray rims.

Can the door height be adjusted? The screen is supplied in fixed heights (750mm or 900mm). Select the correct height at the point of order. The wall compensators provide 14.5mm of lateral adjustment per side to accommodate minor wall irregularities, but do not alter the screen height.

Do I need to buy a curtain separately? No — a weighted permeable shower curtain is included in the kit as standard.

How to Choose the Correct Screen

  1. Pick Your Handedness:

Non-handed is used with square trays (e.g. 800×800, 900×900mm). Both panels are the same length, so the screen is perfectly symmetrical

Left-handed vs Right-handed applies to rectangular trays (e.g. 1200×700mm), where one panel is longer than the other. You determine whether you need a left-handed or right-handed screen based on which side the longer door panel is located, when standing at the opening door entry corner:

  • Left-handed - the longer door panel is on your left as you face the shower
  • Right-handed - the longer door panel is on your right as you face the shower

Important: Choosing the wrong handedness is the most common ordering mistake. Returns are chargeable, so please check carefully before ordering. If you are unsure, please call us on 0161 223 5050.

2. Choose your size:

Each option has 2 door panels. Measure your longest door first, then your shortest length. Then select those sizes from the size option boxes.

Note: Some screen sizes are made to order and could take 7-10 days to be despatched. Please message us first to confirm before placing your order. Made to measure screens are non returnable.

Quick Selection Checklist

Use this to avoid the most common ordering mistakes:

  • Is your tray square? → Choose non‑handed
  • Is your tray rectangular? → Determine left or right
  • Have you measured the long door panel side first, then the short side?
  • Does the screen width allow safe access for the user?
  • Do you need a 750mm or 900mm screen height?
  • Have you checked whether your size is made to order?
